In another matter, do you suppose isotopic analysis of the debris will reveal where the nuclear material in the device was fabricated?

I expect it will. Of course it could turn out to be from somewhere completely unexpected, like say a Western reactor. I'm thinking of something like the Sum of all Fears scenario.

I'd say it sounds like a weapon delivered covertly into the city, which means it's probably a ground burst. Aircraft would have been detected by radar, and an artillery piece would probably have to be on Iraqi territory. Both are not the sort of things used by non-state actors.

This will be ugly...AI going in with SEALs is a possibility, or flying more Predators...I wonder if a Predator could take out a manned aircraft...

Shouldn't the device you mentioned be a fission weapon? I am unaware of any H-Bombs with a yield that low.
