Does anyone have a concept for an shore bombardement vessel, modern day version? Using existing tried and true technology, and trying to make it about as
simple and inexpensive as possible. Something similar to a Tic class cruiser, but downscaled some, using only self defense weapons or weapons optimized for
attacking land targets.

Basically the outlines for the vessel, or requirements, is that it have two 5" guns, one fore and one aft, a single Mk 41 VLS cell for Tomahawk land...

I'm looking for a ship that would be laid down, say, in the year 2000. Spruance class isn't bad, but it's a bit overkill on what I'm looking
for. No ASROC or Sea Sparrow capability is needed on the ship, and 64 cells are a bit much for an economical ship. Halve that number to 32 and 30 of them
equipped with Tomahawk, with 2 cells equipped with ESSM quad packs for minimal air defense. Phalanx CIWS should be replaced with the more modern goalkeeper.
That, and have some stealth...

How modern do you want? There are some really promising LFS designs from the mid-1980s in Friedman's US Amphibious Ships and Craft, based around
various permutations of 8-inch Major-Caliber Lightweight Guns and MLRS launchers. They didn't have helo hangars, though.

I would say that 28 knots is too fast -- the design target should be to keep pace with amphibious forces, which means 22-24 knots would be sufficient.
