Ahoy:

Here are a few items that would prove hugely useful if there is to be a follow-on version of Springsharp:

1) Nuclear Power: the size/weight/volume of the reactor(s) would be determined by their power output and how long the reactor is intended to operate between
refuellings

3) Missile Systems: these include but are not limited to cruise missiles, surface-to-air missiles, rolling airframe missiles, etc

4) Radar & ECM systems

5) Vulcan CIWS (with the ability to choose the...

Ahoy there, EMC:

An additional suggestion that occurred to me as I read your most recent post in this thread is to allow the designer of a vessel to choose different type of
ammunition for the same gun. For example, a 16"/50-caliber gun could have both 1,900-lb HC and 2,700-lb AP shells in the same ammo load.
Also, the durability ratings (so many shells of a given weight or so many torpedoes to sink the ship) should be revised to include how many bombs of different
weights...

Modeling of belts used as structure. I believe this was done by the RN (starting with the pre-ww1 Town class) and the IJN.

Some measure of deck area, ship beam, and ship length used up by guns. I suspect that SpringSharp won't raise any red flags over a ship that's

My main whish for a next springsharp is more cross correlance in the armour selection. That means if one wants to have inclined belt three things should
appear:
A) The belt height should reduce accordingly - or the belt weight should increase for the same height
B) The deck area should increase and thus - in case an armour deck is selected to lay on the top of the main belt- the armour deck should become much heavier.
C) The space below water should reduce more.

Additionally, I would also like to see Springsharp do the stats for 19th-century smoothbore muzzleloading guns accurately. I tried to do a sail-steam driven
design armed with long 32-PDR smoothbores and 68-PDR carronades, and the program said the shell weight was too light.

Ahoy there, Psilander:

Thank you for mentioning gas turbine engines, I had neglected to do so when I posted the message. As for the line drawings I mentioned, my original idea was
that Springsharp could produce drawings that would show what the ship looked like as designed, including the location of the various turrets and other
above-deck structures.

I tend to think that Messrs Ross Gowan would have difficulty fitting the largely volume-constrained modern warships into what is, in essence, a tool to roughly
model weight-controlled warships.

What I would like to see would be:

Better modelling of diesel vs steam machinery

Some modelling of learning curve benefits when building multiple units of one design

Of course, the one thing that I've most desired -- the ability to specify power --...

My suggestions
1. A way to choose ship type som the numbers can be adjusted for battleships to destroyers or even FACs.
2. Missiles in either box, rail och VLS launcher Volumebased system similar to the present torpedosystem, but more detailed.
3. I like the sensor idea but I'm not sure how it would work out.
