Captain Tormolen stepped into the room in the house that had previously served the French Consul General that served as the main meeting
area. Admiral Halsey was already there, as usual. Tormolen took a quick glance of the reports from the overnight fighting.

First up, more Marine casualties ashore on Gudalcanal. Once again they had kept the Japanese from retaking Henderson Field, but at a

Yep, since they had to cut the guy open, it was going to be at least three weeks by 1942 standards. Probably a lot more.

Here's why:

We have to know this first...was Manchester in anchor in Nouméa or Espiritu Santo, or at sea when Captain Stark was diagnosed? Then, how bad was it?
The worst case scenario is, if they had to perform an emergency appendectomy on poor Captain Stark aboard Manchester in her sick bay while at sea,
and there...

Nope. Not a bit. In fact, I'm gonna go back in there and change it. I think it'll fit the demands of the story better, as I think about it.

Thanks, Casus! This is PRECISELY why I appreciate comments!

A truly nice reading to begin the day...

Just a minor nitpicking :
"The docs say Stark should be fit for duty in about a week or so" after surgery for an appendicitis
should be true today.
But I'm afraid in 1942, three weeks should be more plausible, even if the appendicitis isn't complicated. But may be you have an historical example ?
