			<description><![CDATA[ The large number of islands and vast amounts of coastline demands an extensive amphibious capability, for disaster relief at least, as well as internal security and defense needs. <br>

The tsunami actually emphasizes the need for these ships, as there would have been a much more effective response to the disaster if they had already been in service. ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Forgot to mention this... apart from those Sigma Class Corvettes ordered from Royal Schelde, they are in final negotiations of buying class 209 submarines and 4 more of the KRI 972 type LPDs from South Korea, and I heard that they might also be approaching Italy for the commandante class Corvettes and China for their frigates.<br>

			<description><![CDATA[ Actually, the Indonesian Navy has made a confirmed order of 4 corvettes.  2 of them are to be built in the Netherlands (Royal Schelde) and the other two  in Indonesia (PT. PAL) by technology transfer.<br>

As to my knowledge, her primary weapons (may be upgraded if they decide to) are said to be as follow:<br>

- 8 (2 launcher x 4 missiles) Active radar homing sea-skimmer Aerospatiale MM-40 Blok 2 Exocet Missiles with Max range of 70km, 0.9 mach speed &amp; 165 kg warhead<br>

On a somewhat related issue, I saw a brief article in JFS that Indonesia has contracted with Italy's Orizzonte Sistemi Navale for more corvettes, possibly derivatives of the Commandante class.  This is a big surprise since the Sigma program with the Netherlands for four corvettes has just started.  Anyone else hear about the supposed deal with Italy? ]]></description>
