			<description><![CDATA[ The USN is justly famous for its heavy projectiles of WWII, which in 16&quot; and 8&quot; were 30% overweight from the formula: weight in pounds equals half
caliber in inches cubed.   It is often mentioned that the British Navy of WWI used heavy projectiles in their 13.5&quot; and 15&quot; guns of 13.8% overweight
that worked out very well.  In both navies, the weight was compensated by reducing MV, to 2500 fps in the USN 50 cal guns, and ~2400 fps in the RN.

director, but have found a dearth of info on the Mark33.  All I know about the Marck33 is that it was a semi-enclosed gun director very similar to the Mk37
except that it lacked any kind of radar, using optics only and had the ballistic computer located in the director as opposed to below decks like the Mk37

seconds. That sounds pretty high, though I suppose with hoists for ammo and powder it might be at least doable, if only as a burst-rate kind of thing.

only &#39;hard hint&#39; I have at this time is the historical record on refueling DDs (based on time at sea) and a brief snip from one book that notes that a
&quot;Benson&quot; class DD would cruise 5,580 NM @ 12 kts., but if upping to 20 kts would drop to 3,880 NM.

mass spectrometer.  On the base was written 5&quot; Mk17 1942, Los Angeles, CA. It was clearly salvaged from a WWII navy ship, and I assume it is the base of a

			<description><![CDATA[ Need a little help.  The machine I run at work is made from a battleship gun.  A 16 inch 45 caliber Mk VIII to be precise. After researching a bit, I&#39;ve
found the Mk VIII&#39;s were only used on the Colorado class battleships.  I would like to narrow it down to the exact ship it came from.  I&#39;ve ruled out
the Washington as she was never completed, but that still leaves three.  Unless I&#39;m mistaken, it either came from the Colorado, the Maryland, or the West
