My opinion on the whole "what the KM" should have done leading up to WW2 is that it isn't entirely correct go with nothing but submarines. They are your most important aspect, but they shouldn't be the only thing built. I am trying to design the historical SMS Kaiser Fredrich III class pre dreadnought but I am running into some problems finding armor details. Conways and some of the online sources I can find differ on the weaponry of the secondary battery.

More importantly I cannot find information on the upper belt nor do I really understand what the upper belt is. Can anyone explain to me what the upper belt is and how one might figure out the thickness of the upper belt if all that is listed is...

I think a lot of people consider France's Danton class to be one of the less-brilliant decisions by the staff of the French Navy.

So, the task is:

2010 Perry FFG Replacement

Blank slate. The USN is looking for a Perry class FFG replacement. ASW is primary role, secondary roles including anti-piracy/smuggling patrols, ASuW, and AAW in at least a limited form. Other than that, it's pretty much freestyle, just try to keep it down to about half the displacement/cost of an Arleigh Burke DDG.

Aegis Arrays & American Naval Architecture

Partialy a technical question and partialy the question - what the hell happened to US Naval Architecure.

Why are the SPY1 arrays on all in service vessels mounted below the level of the ships bridge? Is it a matter of weight or available volume? Does the radar perform better when lower, which is contrary to the normal practice of mounting the radar as high as possible.

Argentina Treaty Cruiser - 1929

This is more of a general competition than anything else, but the purpose of this competition is to design a full size Argentina Heavy Cruiser, Treaty Limits, with 12x7.5"/50 guns as main armament. This particular gun is a fictional development of the 7.5"/45 Mk VI used in the RN Hawkins class, firing a 200lb shell like it's predecessor. This is an RN design, so secondaries and AA are to consist of 4x4.5" DPs and 8x1.575" minimum, no torpedoes are to be embarked....

In an alt hist I'm playing with, Hawai'i retains its independence.

Some demographic and economic points:

Hawai'i retains its monarchy.

If Invincible had been built as a 9.2"/50 gunned ship, while retaining the same displacement, how much additional armored protection could be installed on the ship? Also, could the first two ship's entry into service be sped up if they are armed with the twin 9.2"/50 mounts originally intended for the Lord Nelson class?

The USN never completed a "battle cruiser."

The year is 1907; the USN decides it needs a class (how many is up to you) of armored cruisers with homogeneous big-gun armament.

Main battery: at least 8 guns, of at 10in or more bore.
Speed: at least 20% faster than the RN's latest class of armored cruisers
Protection: decent

Cost: No more than 15% greater than the prior class...

Its 1884 and the colony of Victoria has just modernised their ironclad Cerberus with nordenfelt guns in her tops to repel torpedo boats. Nevertheless, there is some concern as to her becoming obsolete in the next five years.
