If the F-35 is delayed more and the USMC AV-8B fleet needs to be deactivated would it be likely that the USN would buy more F/A-18E and transition some more USN F/A-18C squadrons to F/A-18E. The F/A-18C would be transfered to the USMC, get the center barrel treatment and the USMC AV-8B squadrons would transition to the F/A-18C or F/A-18A+ for the interim?

after bloodying them with those 2/3rd of those Long Lance and their excellent night time gunnery and headed straight for the transports?

Seems to me, Admiral Mikawa's real objective were the transports not the covering force. He committed a strategic error in forcing close and decisive action to annihilate the cruiser force BEFORE he sank every transport and shelled the crap out of Henderson field and whatever marine positions he could ID ( I assume he had some HE shells...

According to this, you may see F-35 production cuts, the EFV killed, and possibly even two carrier battle groups because projected shortfalls in Navy and Marine corps airframes due to the Lightning's ever increasing price tag. Personally, I think they might want to look at canceling the B/C variants and buying Block III Super Hornets instead. I would also look at canceling America and ordering some...

I don't think any Hellcats took part in the Battle for Guadalcanal though. Hadn't we secured the island before the F6F made its appearance in the theater? Still a neat story and neat to see the pilot's grandson in the cockpit.

I need some help. On another board, I stated that had Kimmel and his battleships been at sea when the Japanese attacked, that our losses would have been higher. I recall reading about it on another website, but I can't recall the name. Can anyone help? I know this has been wargamed out.

There was a FF stationed out of NOB when I was last stationed there that was a odd ball bastardized Garcia Class Modification of some sort, experimental propulsion I think and other "let's try it here first" items. I know she didn't sail often, at least in thew 80's anyway...
Question was what was the big stern door for ? Was this some sort of VDS access port? How water tight could that by right on the transom like that?

It seems that the design is mostly predicated on the perceived need to counter Iranian 'speedboat' swarms, but what happens when the Iranians acquire some Russian or Chinese or European or indigenously developed corvette, even a stealthy corvette? Why do the USN think that they will always face 3rd or 4th rate opponents? What happens if the LCS on the spot does not have the right modules fitted? I don't think there is a great need for an occasional sprint speed of over...

First we have the just relieved CO of Seal Team 4

The commanding officer of SEAL Team 4 was fired Wednesday after five months in command, a Navy spokesman said.

Cmdr. Dennis Debobes was fired because of loss of confidence in "his ability to perform his duties," said Lt. j.g. Arlo Abrahamson, spokesman for Naval Special Warfare Group 2. The relief was carried out by Capt. Colin Kilrain, commander of Group 2. The team is based at Little Creek, Va.

Modern LMS(R)?

Just something I thought of recently while commenting in another thread (the LCS one). I was watching R. Lee Ermey's new show Lock and Load the other day, and they were featuring the history of artillery. When they got to the Paladin and MLRS, I had the thought that if NGFS became a Navy priority for whatever reason (obviously it isn't now for various reasons) then why not try an inexpensive (i.e. expendable like the LST type) ship mounting modified 155mm Paladin turrets and MLRS...

Penetration Table Question

I was wondering version of the Mark 8 was used for the penetration tables given on the NavWeaps site for the USN 16"/45 and 16"/50.

Would the Mod 6 have significantly better performance than the Mod 0 at all ranges, or just at fall angles of 35 degrees or more?
