Just a few questions:

1) Why didn't the Brits form army groups like the French or the Germans?
2) It is painfully obvious that the Brits did not have the resources to attack the Germans in a large scale offensive, why did they limit the size of their offensives to one or two corps at most?
3) Was Haig simply over his head?

Which fire-control method proved the most effective back in the day; the Centurion's ranging machine gun or the Patton's stereoscopic range-finder? Most accounts I've read suggest that the ranging technique was simpler and just as effective (if not more so under 1,000 yards) and even employed by Patton crew's for close engagements using the 30 cal co-axial machine gun. If so, how close is "effective" for the 30 cal co-axial gun?

If the Pakistani government publicly called up the Indian government tomorrow and told them that they were unilaterally withdrawing 90% of their military units from the Indian border regions in order to better counter the Taliban, what would India do? Surely India will not invade Pakistan, since this would evoke a stern response from Obama et al. My thinking is that, provided the Pakistani people go along with it, the redeployment away from the border would do wonders for Indian-Pakistani...

I attended my first WWII reenactment this weekend at the Collins Foundation in Stow MA.

Great place with both a classic car and vintage aircraft collection. Strongly recommend it.

In 2003 Legislation was passed in parliament that Upon leaving active duty in the Regular or Active Reserves, former soldiers had to serve in the In-active reserves for a five year period. Come 2007, the government introduced a scheme to reduce the shortfall in recruitment by allowing people to join the defense forces for an initial 12 month period as a "try before you buy" sort of thing.
